Genel began her career as a history teacher in Dade County , Florida . She served as Dean of Girls until retiring to raise her daughter. During those years, Genel was also a substitute teacher and private tutor, and found time to teach piano in her home. She served along side her husband for eight years as a pastor's wife at two area churches. When her daughter began looking ahead toward college, Genel began her own business as an employee benefit specialist, marketing health, dental and vision packages to businesses. It was through her professional life in the health insurance realm that Mrs Nichols found her way to Kentridge.
